Mild or Spicy? Choosing Your Chicken Curry in Side
If you want a mild chicken curry in Side, order the Chicken Korma — it's the gentlest, creamiest option at Hawaii Restaurant. For more warmth, step up to Chicken Curry or Chicken Tikka Masala, and if you love heat, the Chicken Bombay is the boldest of the four.
Curry heat, honestly ranked
Curry means very different things on the same menu, and "spicy" is where families get caught out. At Hawaii Restaurant in Side old town, our kitchen has cooked over wood-fire and charcoal since 2000, and we serve our Indian-style chicken curries to guests from Side, Kumköy, Evrenseki, Çolaklı, Sorgun, Titreyengöl, Gündoğdu, Ilıca and Manavgat. Rather than throw around Scoville numbers we'd have to invent, here's how our real curries actually sit from mildest to boldest, so you order the right one first time.
Chicken Korma — the mildest
If someone at the table doesn't want any real heat, the Chicken Korma is the answer. It's the creamiest and gentlest of our curries, built for comfort rather than kick — the plate we most often point parents and cautious eaters towards. It's a reliable "not spicy" choice and pairs happily with rice for younger diners. If curry feels like a step too far entirely, our kids' menu in Side keeps things simple.
Chicken Curry — the everyday middle
Our classic Chicken Curry in Side sits comfortably in the middle: more flavour and a touch more warmth than the Korma, but still very approachable for most guests. It's the sensible pick when you want a "proper" curry without committing to serious spice. If you're weighing up the whole range side by side, our overview of curry in Side lays out how each one differs.
Chicken Tikka Masala — warm and rounded
The famous korma-vs-tikka-masala question comes up at almost every table. The short version: Korma is the mild, creamy one; Chicken Tikka Masala is richer and a little warmer, with more depth from its spiced, tomato-based sauce. It's not a fiery dish, but it carries noticeably more character than the Korma. If you enjoy flavour but only want gentle heat, this is a lovely middle-to-upper choice.
Chicken Bombay — the boldest
For the heat-seekers, Chicken Bombay is the boldest curry we plate. It's the one to order when "make it spicy" is the goal and no one at the table needs coaxing. If you're unsure how far up the scale you want to go, start a rung lower and build up on your next visit — that's exactly why we rank them this way.
Not in the mood for curry?
Chicken doesn't have to mean curry. The same kitchen turns out grilled chicken fillet, Chicken Schnitzel, Chicken Kiev, Tropical Chicken, Kansas Chicken and a chicken stir fry, so a curry-shy guest still has plenty to enjoy. Our wider chicken dishes guide for Side walks through the full spread, and you'll find everything, with current prices, on the full menu.
Good to know before you order
All our meat and chicken are halal (halal slaughter), so families who eat halal can order our curries with confidence. Pork is available only on request, prepared in a separate area with dedicated equipment. Do bear in mind Hawaii is a bar as well as a restaurant — we serve alcohol, including 30+ cocktails and a Happy Hour from 19:00 to 20:00 — so we're family-friendly with halal meat, not an alcohol-free venue.
