Every all-inclusive guest runs the same silent calculation at 18:45: "We already paid for dinner… but." That but is doing heavy lifting. Let us do the maths honestly — buffet versus night out — from a kitchen that competes with your wristband nightly.

Where the buffet genuinely wins

• Zero friction. Lift, plate, done. With small kids and big hunger, unbeatable.
• Volume variety. Forty dishes at once — even if none is anyone's favourite.
• Sunk cost comfort. It is, in the moment, "free". Psychology is real.

Where the buffet structurally cannot compete

• Cooked-to-order. A 450g T-bone grilled to your medium-rare, a fajita platter still hissing — heat-lamp trays cannot, by physics, do this.
• Theatre. The Testi kebab cracked open at your table is a memory; the omelette station is a queue.

Eating out is not "free". But price the alternative correctly: you are not buying dinner — you already own dinner — you are buying the one evening you will still describe at Christmas.
